Lighting Design Online Lecture

Class: Design for the Performing Arts – TAD 162
Introduction
I plan to use this video in TAD 162 Design for the Performing Arts. I will post it on Blackboard for students to view before the lighting project in the class. My original, in-class presentation is about 45 minutes long, so I decided to narrow the topic and focus only on lighting properties.
Making this video made me realize that it probably would be more effective to create a series of small presentations instead of a long one. I have a new person teaching a section of this course in the fall and I can share this presentation with her.
Benefit
Students will be able to view the presentation as often as they need, as opposed to trying to remember what I said in class. In the past, I only posted the slides. In addition, in many introductory courses faculty are asked to give a survey of all aspect of theatre, but few have expertise in lighting. This simple introduction to light can help both students and faculty.
